Marketing is very essential in today’s business world. Every single company in the world requires marketing to sell their products or services.

Marketing is identifying customer customers need and providing the solution with your product or service. And also you should be able to make a profit out of it.

People think Marketing is only related to Products and services but it is not.

Events also need marketing, i.e. and live concert or music event, water resorts etc.

People also need marketing help to grow their worth like today’s cricketers Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar. Places also need marketing, current sensational place in our country is “world’s tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Statue of Unity.  Besides Gujarat tourism is also very active in the marketing tourism business.

Properties like housing projects also need to be marketed in order to sell. Nowadays educational institutes are also doing marketing of their educational system, infrastructures.

Now, what is the basic difference between Marketing and sales?

Sale is the ultimate result of Marketing; it is a short-term process. While Marketing is a long term process which involves long term relations with customers, identifying their needs. But sales are also required to make a profit in the company.

Before you start Marketing, you need to have a product or services that you will market and sell. A product or service which can rectify a customer’s problem or helping customer.

You have to define customer’s demand or need or a problem, which you will solve with your product or service. You need to explore a problem, sometimes even customers do not know where the problem lies, you need to show your skill and try to find it.

To market something and sale you need people first. What does it mean by people, people means the right kind of people with the right kind of skills, say sales staff, back office staff. Now mind that a sale staff needs to be very skilful in their execution, the company’s profitability depends on their skills.

Salespeople must also simplify the sales process to make a customer understand. The process must be the simplest level so the customer should not feel a lot of hassles. For example, if you are booking tickets for flight or booking or a hotel then you will always choose a website or agent which seems much simpler and not so much complicated and difficult.

Price is also a most important factor in Marketing & Sales and in the basic pillar of profitability of a company. Deciding the right price for your product is the very essential and critical thing. It cannot be overpriced or under prices and should also be competitive and profit making. Mostly all businesses decide the price of a product or service by knowing the cost of their product and then add some percentage of margin to the cost and derive the selling price.

After deciding selling price of your product, you need to promote it. Nowadays social media promotions are very common and also they return good response /sales. Big companies use TV and newspaper/print media to promote their current products or upcoming products.

Since you are starting your small venture, you can start by mouth to mouth publicity, and can use social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. You can also use LinkedIn to connect and reach your potential customers.  Facebook and Instagram give great opportunity to showcase your products through pictures and articles. You can also buy sponsored ads on Instagram and Facebook which will do target marketing of your product. While LinkedIn is very useful in connecting with people from your profession and also potential buyers.

When you are promoting your product, do not forget to show all the features of your product or all services. What you have, what you can give, how the quality of your product is different or better, safety and other parameters.

Now since you know the basics of Marketing, remember that you do not need to try hard to convince your customer to buy your products (not every time). Make your products helpful or try to help your customer in solving their problem, if it suits them then they will surely buy it.

Apart from these,

You also need to be Positive with customers and being friendly & being able to connect is also important.

Most importantly if they are not feeling your product is the right choice then give them some time to think about it, maybe next time they will purchase. Make sure once they purchase your product, you make them repeat customer.
